Napier and Skeinz made the pilgrimage down to the Unwind fibrecraft retreat in Dunedin this month. Now in it's 6th year, Unwind is run by Morag McKenzie from Vintage Purls. It combines classes, shopping, camaraderie all wrapped up in the contemporary flair that is uniquely Dunedin.
Napier made it's presence felt with not only Skeinz, but Bleating Art yarns & Orange Tail yarns adding to the local flair. We say it was working - but as we are all such good friends, well "working", in this case is a very loose description of the going on's at Unwind!

If you've not been to a fibrecraft retreat, you need to take the plunge to go. These events are so important in not only honing your skills, but developing life long friendships and gathering inspiration from our vibrant diverse community. For Skeinz we are able to talk directly with our customers farther afield and add faces to digital names and profiles. The next event on the calendar for us is Knit August Nights at the end of August here in Napier.
This years Unwind was especially exciting, as for the first time, we launched two brand new yarns for Skeinz, a month before they will be available online or in store. Orb Fine is the long awaited 4ply version of our wildly popular Orb DK. If the reaction at Unwind was anything to go by, I just know you are all going to love this yarn when it hits the shelves on April 1st.
We also unveiled the new new White Gum Wool's Ethical Merino/Silk 5ply range and the first 4ply & DK yarns coming to Skeinz from April 1st. The White Gum story has just enthralled yarn lovers on both sides of the ditch and we just adore Nan Bray from White Gum. We have been making her yarn for almost 5 years and are so delighted to be able to offer it online and in store to you.
Now before you think all I am going to do is tease you with luscious yarns you can't access right now, another yarn launched at Unwind by Outlaw yarn, was Nyx. A Polwarth Silk DK blend in soft shell shades with a couple of brooding accents. It's pearlescent lustre is intoxicating and makes you want to grab the needles and cast on.
This is now available, RIGHT NOW, online with us at Skeinz. Need a pattern to best show off Nyx's ethereal beauty? Then make sure you check out the three new patterns released by Libby Jonson (Truly Myrtle) in Nyx. Available now on Ravelry.
If you want to check out Knit August Nights - it's class schedule has just been released and can be found here.
