Spring Skeinz
This Winter has been insane.  As you would have heard in May we took the plunge & launched our online store.  This has been our way of being able to bring our legendary Skeinz value to the world.  What I love is that the ‘world’ doesn’t have to be very far away.  Because our shop hours are short the online store has also meant that Hawkes bay locals who can’t make it down to the Onekawa store have been able to get their favourite yarns with just a click of a mouse.

The online store is a real living organism, for very growing, changing & evolving.  We have now added a limited range of accessories & patterns & currently there is an online exclusive sale in our Yarn Clearance section.

We have also added a Machine Washable section & last month our new Vintage range was launched & I also held the inaugural Knit August nights knitter retreat & market in Ahuriri, yes very busy!

Cheers
Maree

Vintage Delights
Vintage, our new premium NZ DK yarn has been on shelf for 6 weeks & has been hugely popular.  The yarn is soft with a firm twist, providing excellent stitch definition to textured projects.

For me however it’s the totally edible colours.  All are contemporary & complementary to each other.  Great if you are wanting to add some colour to a favourite pattern.
Vintage Premium DK $5.00 50gm ($6 from Oct 1st)

Skeinz Support
Skeinz has been very busy this past winter developing & supporting some wonderful fibre initiatives.  At Skeinz we are proud to support groups & activities that help keep yarn craft alive & well, & introduce or re-introduce people back to the joys of yarn.

The Ravelry HB Knitters – Meets at Heavens on Emerson every Tuesday from 10am – 11.30, come & join in.

We now have a Red Cross donation box in store for yarn donations going to the army of Red Cross charity knitters (so feel free to toss a ball in next time you are instore) who knit the most stunning garments that are then sold at markets to raise funds for the likes of the Christchurch earthquake, & other international disaster relief.

We also supported the Ravelry Hawkes Bay knitters set up a ‘Learn to Knit’ programme.  The first session was in August (see pic above)& was a tremendous amount of fun & we are now having a second session in October, call into Skeinz for more details.

The inaugural Knit August Nights retreat was a yarn ‘Love in’.  A feast of delicious yarn, learning & laughter.  Skeinz will be support KAN:2 next year & the market that goes alongside it.  If you would like to be part of either feel free to email Maree on busckem@clear.net.nzor visit her blog  (http://buscke.blogspot.com)where there will be regular KAN:2 updates.

Knitting for Christmas
Yes I know I have uttered the ‘C’ far too early for many of you, but as a knitter we need time to prepared & get knitting for Christmas.  It’s not just those small special hand made gifts, it is also a time you decorate your Christmas with yarn.

Last year I took part in a Christmas ornament swap organized by NZ blogger ‘Twenty Cent Mixture”.  It was great fun, really testing your creativity.  After an extensive search for ornaments, (put Christmas in your Ravelry search & await to be amazed!), I opted to design my own, I took the old cardboard Pom Pom rings we used as children & then just threaded yarn around it covering the ring completely.  Then using old buttons & had littering the bottom of my knitting bag, I hot glued them in place to create my own version of a yarn Christmas.

Scarves, hat, socks & mitts are also great gift ideas, but one I came across via one of our Skeinz regulars was these cleaver felted slippers.  Designed by Liecel Tverli Scully, the pattern for these can be found at http://blog.craftzine.com/craftprojects/easy_house_slippers/

Knitted entirely in garter stitch you can do them either in one colour or in modular blocks of colour & all the magic is in the folding & felting.  I am almost finished my first pair (which I will post on my blog) & I can see I will develop an addiction to these quite easily.
